MSJC: College Police Chief Placed on Leave
December 28th, 2011FYI
Mt. San Jacinto College’s police chief has been placed on a paid leave, college spokeswoman Karin Marriott confirmed in a voice message Tuesday. The leave was effective Dec. 15. Marriott said she was not able to comment further on the personnel matter involving John Ortega, who became chief in March 2011.

MSJC now has two Police Chief’s on the payroll. Can MSJC afford a PD and/or manage one?
Ortega was highly recommended by staff and acting interim Terry Meadows. The vote for the hire was 4-1 with Motte opposed. The Chief of Police is supervised under the VP of Student Services Bill Vincent while the former Chief Segawa was supervised under VP of HR Irma Ramos.
Former released police officers have filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the district. A recent Riverside Appellate Court decision “denied” MSJC’s petition for writ of mandate for dismissal of that lawsuit.
Below is MSJC press release when Chief Ortega was hired March 2011.
