MiraCosta wants state’s high court to review Richart decision/NCTimes

“MiraCosta trustees will ask the California Supreme Court to overturn a recent appellate court ruling that invalidates a roughly $1.6 million settlement between the board and its former superintendent president.”
“Trustees voted 4-2 in a closed-session meeting Tuesday to appeal the ruling to the state’s highest court.”
“In a Nov. 23 ruling, that court found the settlement between the college and former president was void because it exceeded the value of 18 months’ salary and benefits—the maximum the state allows in contract buy-outs for executives of local agencies.”
Blog:
The boards original legal advice should have been the same as the Nov. 23rd ruling. It’s hard to believe trustees want to have this latest court decision “overruled”. Nuts!

Ann, this is almost as “Nuts” as the decisions that the MSJC BOT’s decisions. Any reasonable person would believe that with the recent developments within the PD (Search Warrants, Segawa’s arrest and resignation, Medina lying under oath, lawsuits, etc.) that Roger and the BOT would want to correct the wrongs committed by Segawa and his cohorts.
It is very apparent that they are not willing to do this. In fact they have recently shown that they do not care about the victims in any way and have no intention of “doing the right thing” at all. This was proven when they refused to attend a case settlement conference with the former officers who simply want to continue with their careers.
From the beginning the administration, led by Irma Ramos, has attempted to “cover up” the issues within the PD including the complaints against Ryan Myers, Mark Medina and Segawa. Interesting that there are open complaints against these officers that have yet to be resolved.
Ann, how in the world do you justify the actions of the district? Why are they so willing, at the cost of the taxpayers, to refuse to resolve the issues created from the PD?
“Nuts”…no, it sounds like this is typical behavior for community colleges.
I cannot justify actions of this board majority regarding the PD. Current administration/board majority have a “deny/appeal” mentality. Nothing will change this without a change on the board. Understand, one member has one voice/one vote.
Ann, I certainly agree with you. Always remember that we are all aware of your opinions/objections with regards to the PD.
I heard from a very reliable source that Sparkman will NOT be running unopposed next year. I can assure you that these issues, and many more, will be brought to the voters’ attention Somehow I don’t think that taxpayers will support her record especially how she was in the “drivers seat” while the cover up was occurring.
I am not a fan of the typical “dirty” campaign but I do believe that the voters should be educated with the truth about Joan Sparkman and her involvement in the corruptive behavior within the district. I believe that her record speaks for itself.
