Chancellor Jack Scott/Advice to California Community Colleges
June 1st, 2009“I would advise all of you to take steps such as the following: 1) Reduce course sections for the next year. We can no longer educate above the cap. 2) In most cases, don’t replace resignations and retirements. 3) Reduce administrative costs by having fewer administrators oversee larger areas.”
Blog:
Scott’s position is institutionally focused NOT student focused and violates the California Community College mission statement charged to provide access to students for educational opportunity.
Cutting sections above cap, results in the same administrative costs overseeing less area, i.e, less sections, less students. These sections are taught by part-time faculty the least costly sections to provide.
California administrative contracts for salary/benefit/perks are some of the highest in the nation. Why are these “sacred cows”? Don’t you have any better ideas, Jack?
