“According to a Riverside County Government tort claim, three MSJC police officers claim they were forced to quit under pressure for threatening to expose corruption in the department.”
“After filing the court claim last month, the three officers expect the county to respond within the next two weeks.”
“The college’s board of trustees rejected the demands in the tort claim on Nov.13.” Karen Marriott, MSJC spokesperson
Blog:
Why would the MSJC Board of Trustees vote to reject demands in a tort claim against Riverside County? The college PD is under jurisdiction of the college, not Riverside County?

The College District was served with the complaint as well as the County of Riverside. The District was required to respond upon being served as John Doe 1-50. I am sure the actual legal filing will have the district named specifically.
Didn’t the lawyer representing the district explain this to you before you voted to reject. You are a board member Ann did you just vote blindly?
According to Gov. Code 945.4 a “claim” against district must first be placed on the open agenda for public review and voted on in open session. That did not occur. Item was on closed session agenda and vote was reported out. The district has not provided me with the actual filing.
Sounds to me like the administration at MSJC did NOT want this open to public view and THEY decided not to place it on the open agenda. How come Ann? You are their boss. Demand an answer. Maybe an emergency meeting of the Board is needed. The district can ill afford anymore embarassment.
Having worked in the legal field for over 11 years I can assure you more details, and I am certain they wil not be flattering, are sure to follow.
The agenda is set by the Chair/Superintendent.
Ann, what does all this say about the Chair/Superintendent? Turning a blind eye to an obvious problem within the police department and HR management is bad enough, but claiming ignorance to the facts is not a defense I’d want to hide behind in this legal battle.
As a BOT your platform has always been to do the right thing, especially for the students. Don’t you think you owe it to them to get to the bottom of this and hold those responsible for hiding the fact accountable?
