“Police Officer Association Bargaining Proposal for Academic Year 2008-09″
“Pursuant to Government Code 3547, the District was provided the POA proposal.”
There are twenty (20) categories on this POA proposal which include:
Salary; Special assignments pay; Bilingual pay; Longevity pay; Promotional pay; Educational pay; Health benefits; Tuition reimbursement; Marksmanship pay; “Duty” ammunition; Uniform allowance; Equipment; Court pay; Call out pay; Consistent and posted schedule; On call pay; Shift differential pay; Shift change pay; and
Retirement benefit of 3% @ 50 (Single Highest year formula) with District paying 9% of Officer contribution to retirement plan.
Public comment on this item will be taken at the October 9, 2008 BOT meeting.

Ann, I hope the distrcit does not plan on making this retirement benefit retroactive. The County of Orange is currently being sued for providing this benefit to their Sheriff deputies retroactively. This is considered a gift of public funds to back fund a state retirement fund. Do the police really deserve this benefit? This is VERY costly and many cities are not trying to get rid of this public safety benefit. Can the district really afford this?
The POA proposal has an “effective July 2008″ date. The department began in 2003 with a $150,000 federal grant. Current costs have grown to $1,000,000 per year.
