“California state government spent $145 billion last fiscal year, $41 billion more than four years ago. With all that new spending–a whopping 40% increase–we ought to be in a golden age of government with abundant public services for all.”
“The state’s financial statement describe where the money went–the big gainers were education (13 billion), transportation ($10 billion) and health ($10 billion)–but not why these billions create even a blip on our day-to-day-radar.”

Despite increases in community college funding over four years and a budget of over $100,000,000, MSJC has been unable to maintain existing campus facilities, increase the full-time faculty percent (lowest in the state), raise the participation rate (second to lowest in the state) and/or make major improvement to campus athletic facilities which remain second rate in comparison to high school/city facilities.
With new college leadership, perhaps these issues will become budget priorities for the greater benefit of students and taxpayers.
