“near” - within, or a short distance; close in space; close in time; being close by; not distant; close to in condition or state; in the immediate vicinity;
A reasonable interpretation of “near” would seem to be within a 1-2 mile radius of the campus(es).

Is Corona “near” ? The Press-Enterprise reported on a drug bust there with MSJC police involved. The point is that the administration should recommend patrol “guidlines” except in hot pursuits for the Board to discuss. This is public business, right? And then make the PD budget public and have a good healthy discussion on priorties, purpose, and mission in serving the students. Why not?
CAN THE P.D PUBLISH IT’S MUTUAL AIDE DOCUMENT THAT THEY HAVE WITH THE RESPECTIVE AGENCIES FOR BOTH CAMPUSES? ARE THEY BEING REIMBURSED FOR PATROLING AND ARRESTS IN NON-LOCAL AREAS? WHO IS PAYING THE O.T.? WHO IS LIABLE (INSURANCE) FOR THESE FIELD TRIPS? THE LOCAL EDUCATION TAXPAYERS JUST WANT THE FACTS, MAM!
I tend to agree with Ann on this. As residents we love having the MSJC police in our neighborhood. But it’s purpose is to protect the college, and not the entire Menifee Valley. Maybe one reason why the Sheriff provides such lousy service to us is because they can mooch off of the community college system to do their work for them.
After rethinking what the patrol guidelines should be, first we need to undrestand why patrol off campus is good for student safety. It seems to me the students would be safer with the officers on campus. If there is an incident or crime on campus what happens to the response time if the officers are off campus? It increases, right? Could the administration justify a slower response to an on campus emergency because the officers are protecting student safety off campus? Are criminals more or less likely to comit a crime on campus if the officers are somewhere else?
Why would anybody even attempt to protect student safety off campus when the students are adults in another police jurisdiction? How would you draw the line?
I wonder what the students and staff think about their safety and security when the officers are somewhere else? If I need protection by the police I want one standing right next to me.
Why will the MSJC PD continue to provide police services to the City of Menifee when it’s the City’s responsibility to provide police services to the Menifee campus? I don’t get it.
And regarding the off campus patrols by the MSJC PD, are they contending that the students are safer because their not on campus?
Lamont Cranston and I have an idea! Why not show some Brotherhood to the new City of Menifee & lease the so called Azusa Campus to the new enity in the neighborhood? As for a good example, A City Hall, A City Police Station, A Corporation Yard, etc. Secondly, why does’nt the new City of Menifee purchase all the tangable assests of the Campus Police Dept? This will allow the MSJC District to use these valuable funds to educate the masses and allow the New Menifee Police Dept a valuable start to patrol their vast area of responsiblity. And when the Secutiy Staff need assistance on the Menifee Campus, the New Menifee City Police Dept would be there! Johnny on the spot! As for San Jacinto Campus, just use on Campus Security and just dial 911 for the Riverside Sherrif to assist in any emergencies. Now! Wasn’t that simple? Just a win-win situation for all parties involved.
“The Shadow Knows”
To day, the MSJC PD showed up at the BOARD meeting in uniform, on duty. WHY? Was it to enhance student safety and security?
