UCD Chancellor to step down next year/Sacbee

“The man who has been at the helm of UC Davis since 1994 announced Monday that he will be stepping down from his post in a year. He plans to take a one-year sabbatical before returning to campus as a professor plant biology.”
Blog:
A one year sabbatical, paid at full salary, with intent to return as a professor. Why would a 67 year old Chancellor return to a faculty salary for less pay than a retirement pension?

I wonder if the Regents approved this in a public meeting or if it’s just another example of administrators approving employment contracts for each other? You know, using their best judgement in spending the taxpayers money. Do you suppose the Regents will simply say they didn’t know about it and didn’t read the paper that day?
