MiraCosta hunting for interim, then permanent leader/NCTimes
June 2nd, 2008“The Mira Costa College board is looking for someone to keep the district’s top administrative seat warm until a permanent superintendent-president is found. John Hendrickson, recently announced that he has accepted a job as chancellor of the West Valley-Mission CCD in Northern California.”
“Hendrickson, who makes roughly $217,000 a year at MiraCosta, moved into the leadership post last summer after President Richart resigned with a settlement package of cash/benefits valued at $1.6 million. Hendrickson chaired the search for a permanent president but the board scrapped that effort in April after the search committee forwarded just two applicants for consideration.”

Why does an interim president make $217,000? Administrative salaries are not tied to performance factors but rather leap frog year after year as they make comparisons of their job positions with other CEO’s in the system. Few public administrators are public servants concerned about efficiency and the taxpayers wallet. These positions have become assured stepping stones to golden parachutes paid out by taxpayers by boards who do not govern nor demand accountability.
