BOT Minutes/CalSTRS/Giese/Maas
September 4th, 2007FYI
Contract approved May 2005. 4-1 Vote (Motte opposed)
August 11, 2005 BOT Minutes: Trustee Sparkman read a prepared statement against Motte.
“Dr. Giese stated it is our intention to assure the Board and the public that they are receiving accurate and correct information about the college.”
January 26, 2006 BOT Minutes: “Trustee Motte shared that she had received a letter from CalSTRs concerning post retirement employment earnings limitations. Trustee Motte read parts of the letter and offered copies to those in attendance.”
“Trustee Kadow added, Dr. Giese does not work for the college but is a consultant provided through the Maas Companies and it is none of the college’s business what Maas Companies pays Dr. Giese.”
“Dr. Tyler said that Dr. Giese’s retirement earnings are between Dr. Giese and CalSTRs and it is problematic for the MSJC Board to continue to address this issue. The contract Dr. Giese has is a private contract between Dr. Giese and Maas Companies. ”
February 9, 2006 BOT Minutes: “Trustee Motte voiced concern sharing that with the new information the Board has regarding the CalSTRS earning limitations and that the CalSTRS directive was the basis for the earlier legal opinion this contract should not be extended.”
“Dr. Tyler, VP of HR said the college is paying for services rendered. MSJC does not have the authority or right to limit what Maas Companies pay their employees. He reminded the Board that a half truth presented as a whole truth becomes an untruth. We do not have the authority or responsibility to limit Dr. Giese’s salary.”

What do you do with an administrator who is intentionally and repeatily dishonest with the Board and the public? This Board gives him a big raise and promotes him to leader of the college. And Mark gets fired? Do you suppose that was for being honest?
Another sad aspect is that Ann Motte will never get an apology from these folks because they can’t admit mistakes and are void of redemption.
