The above agenda is posted on the CalSTRs website for September 5, 2007. Mt. San Jacinto College District is listed under Item 3b, “School District Audits Status Update” on the consent agenda. The Board summary report provided on the agenda states the following regarding MSJCCD.
“MSJCCD made several errors in reporting a former employee’s reimbursement. These errors resulted in an understated Defined Benefit modified retirement allowance and an overstated Defined Benefit Supplement retirement benefit. MSJCCD did not report post-retirement creditable compensation earned by this former employee to CalSTRS. Because the employee did not ensure that the District kept accurate records, CalSTRS could not monitor the earnings limit.”
Blog: Three high level employees did a poor job of following state law. One retired, one resigned for another position, and one was named college interim president (3-2 vote/March) and rewarded with a $190,000 contract before cola, having $20,000 in additional “perks” (4-1 vote/June), most being all retirement creditable. Go figure.
